Footsteps At Dawn

Post  Kenna De Alba on Fri Jul 20, 2012 6:24 pm

My breath hitched as I watched the sun peek out from over the rooftops. It was mesmerizing watching the sun's phases. Sitting on a blanket in the middle of the small park was a small pleasure that I did every once in a while. Leaning further back, I smirked lightly as I closed my eyes, savoring the moment.

Watching the sun as it rises is different for Vampires than it is for humans. I can look into it for as long as I want to without blinding myself, for instance, and the colours I see are far more varied than just yellow or orange.

The park is empty apart from a girl sitting on a blanket, watching the sun just as intently as I was before. Even though it is only morning, the sun is bright enough that a human would be wearing some sort of eye-protection -- it would only be common sense. I know from my own experiences that our eyes, vampire ones, are not vulnerable to the sun's harmful rays. Is this girl a vampire?

I draw closer to her, my feet not making a sound on the dewy grass, "Hello?"

The voice that called out to me had politeness behind it, which made me slowly look over my shoulder. The woman's deep red hair and green eyes were illuminated in the rising sun, making it easier to tell that she was of the same species as me.
My lips formed a smile, "Hello," I glanced back to the sun before looking towards her once again, "Out to catch a glimpse of the rising sun?" It was more enjoyable when you had a man by your side, but it seemed that men these days got more and more less romantic.

My smile is crooked. I don't usually waste my time on beautiful things, but this morning's sunrise is glorious. I feel the sun's warmth on my fingers and on the emerald ring that is my lifeline. Without it, the beauty of this sight would kill me in a second. I motion as if to take a seat beside her on the blanket.

"Do you mind? I love to watch the sun rise..." my voice falters as I am yet again reminded that I do not deserve to see anything so beautiful. I am a monster, a killer, however much I want to pretend otherwise. I recline slightly, not quite sitting yet, waiting for her answer.

I lay down on the bench nearby and look over as I hear you talking. "Not at all, the sun rising is always nice to look at.

"Hmm..." I sigh as I sit down on the blanket. Nothing to see here, I think wryly. Just three vampires enjoying the early-morning sun. I stare up at the mango-coloured clouds and feel as if the ring is growing heavier on my finger.

Sometimes I almost regret becoming a vampire, but not really, not when I think of all the things that are better because of it. The sun might be potentially deadly to me, but the world of the night more than makes up for the hazard.

"It's worth it..." I mumble, not aware beforehand that I was going to speak the words aloud.

"No, I don't mind. It's a free nation after all." I smile before looking back towards the sun, "It's a sad thought that humans don't nearly enjoy the sunrise as much as we do. They can't see the true beauty behind it."

"Human's don't appreciate a lot of things..." I murmur, feeling suddenly wistful. I turn to Kenna and try to make my expression more pleasant. I know I am scowling but I can't help the melancholic that sometimes brings me to tears, even though I am glad to be what I am -- a creature of the night.

The wind rustles the leaves of the trees behind us and brings with it the smell of magic.

I just listen to you guys talking and approach you guys. "Hello Shannon, what are you doing here?"
I look at Rebekah and sit up in the park bench. "Just enjoying the sun rising. What are you up to?"

I smile at the newcomer, pleased to find that she doesn't want to kill me... so many of them do. "Hi," I say as I cross over to her, smiling. "I'm glad I'm not the only one who is effected...."
